A Case of Unilateral Agenesis of Premolars treated with Simple Mechanics

چکیده
Agenesis of one or more teeth is the most common anomaly in dental development.1 The incidence for permanent tooth agenesis ranges from 1.6 to 9.6% in the general population excluding third molars.2-6 Third molars being the most commonly missing tooth, opinions vary on the second most commonly missing tooth. Some investigators7-11 believe that this is the maxillary lateral incisor whereas others4,12 believe that mandibular second premolar agenesis has a higher incidence. An interesting correlation on the number of missing teeth and the tooth class has been made by Muller et al.8 They have noted that maxillary lateral incisors are the most frequently missing teeth, when only 1 or 2 teeth are absent; whereas second premolars are the most frequently missing teeth when more than two teeth are absent. Defective MSX1 gene in chromosome 4p was found to be associated with agenesis of second premolar and third molar formation.13 The orthodontic and prosthetic treatment options for the agenesis of premolars depends on the associated malocclusion. This case report deals with unilaterally missing upper and lower second premolars with severe dental midline shifts to the affected side.

A Case of Bilateral Agenesis of the Femur
Bilateral femoral agenesis is a rare anomaly. To the best of our knowledge, only three cases of simple congenital anomaly and three cases associated with femoral facial syndrome have been reported. Here, we describe a simple form of bilateral femoral agenesis observed in one of the 2 dead fetuses delivered after termination of a 24-week twin pregnancy of a normal mother. Post-mortem x-ray ex...
متن کاملAgenesis of Right Lung: A Rare Congenital Disorder
Pulmonary agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly in which there is absence of pulmonary parenchyma as well as its bold vessels. It is an unusual cause of respiratory distress in newborn. Unilateral agenesis of lung is often associated with other congenital anomalies. The condition may lead to diagnostic difficulties. Right pulmonary agenesis has poor prognosis. Here we present a case of fem...
متن کاملEvaluation of the role of unilateral and bilateral tooth extraction treatment on maxillary arch symmetry in Class II subdivision cases
Background and Aim: Unilateral extractions have been proposed as potential treatment options to correct Class II subdivision malocclusion, suggesting that most side effects associated with asymmetrical mechanics can be avoided, however the post-treatment arch form may not be symmetrical. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the post-treatment effects of unilateral premolar extrac...
متن کاملPulmonary Artery Agenesis with Bronchial Asthma
Unilateral Pulmonary Artery Agenesis (UPAA) is a rare congenital anomaly during the 4 th week of gestational age. It is defined as an absence of pulmonary parenchyma and its supporting artery. A 9-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital because of chronic cough. Chest examination showed a decrement in lung sound of right hemi-thorax with expiratory wheeze. Chest radiography (CXR) revealed a...
